Week of January 21, 2008

Announcing the "Go for the Gold" Reading Challenge to begin January 21 thru February 29, 2008. Students can receive a Bronze medal for reading 2 books, a Silver medal for reading 4 books, or qualify for a Gold Medal if they read 6 books in 6 different catagories.

1 Fiction book

1 Biography

1 International book about a country or a person from a different country

1 Poetry book

1 Science book or a book about a scientist or inventor, or a science fiction book

1 Sports book or a book about a sports figure.



Students must sign-up to participate and pass Accelerated Reader tests with 80% or higher. An Award assembly will be held in March to award the medals.



We are also celebrating the 40 days of non-violence with a "Reading Special". If a student reads a biography about a person who has promoted peace or non-violent change that affect people's lives, a credit for 2 books will be given toward the total books.



Students averaged 130 books per week last year. Hope to beat that total this year. So start READING.

6th Grade students need to return or pay for overdue books by Wednesday, January 23 in order to attend the dance on Thursday, January 24.



In the library this week on Monday, January 21, Mr. McCullough's Leaders group is scheduled for research. Mr. Hopewell's and Mr. Walker's classes are scheduled for book exchange.



Tuesday, January 22 Mrs. Cook's classes will be using the library for silent reading time and Mrs. Rocco's class is scheduled for book exchange.



Wednesday, January 23 Mr. McCullough's Leaders group is scheduled for research. Mrs. Gougeon's classes are scheduled for book exchange.



Thursday, January 24 Mrs. Cassar's classes are scheduled for book exchange.



Friday there is No School so Mrs. Frazier's classes are scheduled for book exchange on Monday January 28.
